# Security

## What the bridge does and does not do

Galactic Bridge is an **interface**, not a custodian. It never holds funds, never sees a private key or seed phrase, and never asks for one. Every transaction is signed in your own wallet.

No account is required. No personal data is collected. Saved tokens live in your browser, not on a server.

Connecting a wallet does **not** request a signature — it only shares your public address.

## Verify the token contract yourself

This is the one thing no interface can do for you.

Anyone can deploy a token using a familiar name or ticker. The bridge does not review, endorse or vouch for any token you enter — it simply moves what you point it at. Always confirm the contract address from a source you trust: the project's own site, its official channels, or a reputable explorer listing.

## Before signing

Your wallet shows a simulation of what will happen. Check three things:

* the **destination network** is the one you chose;
* the **amount** is what you entered;
* the **contract** you are interacting with matches the one shown in Bridge Details.

Crypto transactions are irreversible. There is no support desk that can undo a transfer to the wrong network.

## Self-hosting

If you run your own instance:

* never commit `.env` — it is git-ignored for a reason;
* set `ALLOWED_ORIGINS` in production so the API is not open to any origin;
* keep API keys in `.env` only, never in source files that may become public.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://galactic-bridge.gitbook.io/galactic-bridge-docs/security.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
